Today we are going to talk about Diljale which was a big hit of the year 1996 and we truly believe that the entire credit goes to Ajay only. Ajay Devgan is an actor whose presence turns a normal film into an unforgettable movie. The film had a good star cast and everyone played his/her character very well. However, the story seems a bit artificial since the beginning and maybe the trend which was going on at that time is responsible for that. We believe that Diljale could have been much better if the director, producer, and writer made some extra efforts.
In Diljale, Ajay played the role of an innocent boy Shyam who falls in love with a rich girl (Sonali Bendre) and ultimately turns into a terrorist because of the father of that girl (Shakti Kapoor) and corrupt police officer (Gulshan Grover). Ajay joins the group of Dara (Amrish Puri) and starts fighting against the system. An army officer (Permit Sethi) gets transferred into that area with an aim to finish terrorism and eventually sacrifices his love for Shyam. The plot is similar to Ajay’s another film ‘Dilwale’ which was released two years earlier than ‘Diljale’. Though, it managed to get success because of Ajay’s popularity.
There are many scenes in Diljale that actually make everyone laugh despite the fact that they were made to increase the emotional level. For example, Permeet Sethi slaps another officer when he comes to know that Shaka (Ajay) was the lover of Sonali Bendre. However, he immediately says ‘sorry’ to his colleague. In the end, Ajay puts his life into danger to save Amrish Puri and other terrorists and jumps over the landmines. Though, when he opens his eyes into the hospital, viewers don’t see any marks of serious injury. Another scene that seems so artificial is the kidnappings of pilgrims who sing a song in that situation to change the hearts of terrorists.
Diljale was directed by Harry Baweja and the music of this film was composed by famous music director Anu Malik. Two songs of this film ‘Ho Nahi Sakta’ and ‘Shaam Hai Dhuan Dhuan’ were chartbusters and till now fans of Ajay Devgan can be found enjoying them. In this film, Madhu worked with Ajay for the second time after ‘Phool Aur Kaante’ but this time she wasn’t the lead actress. However, her acting skills were appreciated by viewers as well as critics. If you are a big fan of Ajay Devgan then you can always watch Diljale online and go back to those golden days of the 90s for a while.
